Well, first thing to bear in mind that the pic you have in mind can be no larger than 150x150 pixels and less than 59k in size.
With -that- in mind, a simple search on Google for "Forum Avatars" pops up a whole plethora of sites you can try out.
Now then, when you go to use this avatar, you can do it one of three ways:
1) you can have the pic downloaded to your computer (and you need to know which folder you saved it in to)... and then use option 1 (Upload avatar from your machine). Click the browse button and find the folder you saved the pic in to.
2) or, you use choice number 2 (upload avatar from URL)... in which case, you need to know the address of the pic itself on the internet (ie. the URL)... see my previous posts about uploading pics for posting, it's the same principle. What this will do is take that pic, and upload it to the server that these forums are hosted on to.
3) on the flip side, you can also choose door #3 (link to off-site avatar)... you can use this if you have the URL -and- you know that the pic will -stay- there (for instance, I could use this, and upload a pic to my own server space... and so long as I don't delete it, it's good)... be careful about where you're taking it from tho... a lot of people frown upon bandwidth theft.
Lastly there's option 4. Which is no option, as that allows you to choose from a gallery of pics... and if you choose this option, you'll see that the gallery is empty... so really, option 4 is a non-option.
Of course, you can also make your own avatar (and bear in mind those requirements I noted at the very beginning: 150x150 px max... 59k max)... which tends to be the most unique way to go

Ok, Phrogster, I badly need your help. I've been trying to upload avatars on here for like MONTHS, but I can't get it to work. I'm a smart person, but for some reason this isn't working and it's ticking me off! lol. I created an image, then i resized it to be like 110 x 140, and it's like 18kb. I had it on my computer, and I put the link in my profile, and it shows a square with an x in it. Then I uploaded it to my photobucket account, and I put in the url link, and that didn't work either. I just don't get it. I'm doing EVERYTHING right, I swear it! help!!! Thanks. _________________ "And we never even got back to work because the pizza place had a karaoke machine. If you're on Photobucket, I think it's safe enough to use option #3...
I'm not sure why #1 didn't work for you... and I'm guessing you went with #2 when you tried the photobucket deal (there's a way of checking that out that I won't go into here as it's long and drawn out and irrelavent to what we're talking about now)...
When you're in Photobucket, and looking at your image, you'll see over on the right side of the screen a series of codes and such. You want to copy the one that says "URL Link" and paste that into the appropriate spot here (Link to an Off-Site Avatar).
Provided your image is the right size, it should work. If not, let me know and paste in the URL into the reply here so I can take a look at that (in case it might be a Photobucket setting, as your album is set to private... I don't know if that actually makes a difference or not)
